OSINT At Home #23 - Top Commercial Satellite Imagery Providers
This tutorial is part 23 of the OSINT At Home series. The tutorial covers the top providers of commercial satellite imagery and also the third party providers where you can buy other commercial imagery from.
Note: I have not received sponsorship from any of these brands for the making of this video, or for their feature. These are brands that I have used in my work and for investigations and analysis in the past that has relied on satellite imagery as a tool.
The tutorial focusses on guiding you through the different main providers of commercial satellite imagery, with a special look at the three biggest and main providers of global high resolution satellite imagery, being Maxar, Planet and Airbus.
There are, however, many commercial satellite imagery providers, including other ‘imagery’ providers such as synthetic aperture imagery (SAR), so in this tutorial I also go through third party imagery providers, such as Apollo Mapping and SkyFi, where you can find these main providers, as well as others depending on your needs.
By taking a closer look at some of the leading commercial satellite providers, like Maxar Technologies, Airbus’s OneAtlas, and Planet Labs, and discussing the services they provide, as well as what they provide for free, you will have an idea of what’s available to purchase, outside of the big wide world of free satellite imagery.
The links for the providers shown in this tutorial are:
Maxar: www.maxar.com/
Planet Labs: www.planet.com/
Airbus: intelligence.airbus.com/imagery/
SkyFi: www.skyfi.com/
Apollo Mapping: apollomapping.com/
The OSINT At Home series is useful for those looking to find digital breadcrumbs and pick up some methods of open source intelligence (OSINT), digital investigations and good old plain research. No matter who you are, or where you are in the world, you can follow these tutorials from home with publicly available information to answer questions such as who, what, where and when.

I am an huge fan man. Please can you guive us some tips about how to masterisy this skill like you did in your videos.
wow
What if there is no meta data available for the image ?
That we have have the manual geo/chrono skills in these tutorials for 😆
Hey! Late to the party IK but how would you suggest we practice these skills?
ill come back later this is too much math right now.
still can't find Biden even with OSINT.
3:29 it went from earth to what looks like mars.
They look like they are photoshopped in the image, I cant explain it. I suppose a thief or stalker could use the data to stalk someone via social media, that part is scary. Or, worse, your kids... keep your kids off social media. Still cannot find Biden even with all this at your disposal.
Fun fact, you can strip the data or spoof it in* your images, I presume for the videos too. Privacy is important. Though one day it might save your life not to. After being doxed, I started to utilize this.
Do you know any good commercial providers for thermal imagery? I'm specifically interested in very high resolution <10m or even <3m resolution>
WE DOXXING OUR OPPS WITH THIS ONE
Ty
Appreciate all effort and time you provide in this course Ben.
Thank you 🙏
Striking and horrific changes in Gaza over last two decades. Also Palestine pre-1948 proves the land had a people, civil infrastructure and cities, villages and towns, with roadways between them. Fascinating facts debunking current day propaganda lies.
Can any of these be used to make 3D models of a certain area/region? Tks
Heartbreaking.
Hi Benjamin, Thank you for sharing your knowledge and enhancing my abilities. Would love to know if you are able to share any courses where OSINT skills can be advanced. Many Thanks
Great video! The only issue i had was with zoom earth as it doesn´t let me zoom very much. It will stop at a very high height and the resolution is not very high res. If you can spare some advice on why is it behaving that way i would aprecceate! Keep up with the great job! :)
Such a valuable source to learn OSINT. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Nice
Thanks
Thanks
Welcome 🙏
Amazing free hands on so many tools and appreciate this work. My question is, do we have tools to calculate heights of individuals from pictures or videos? Many Thanks
Very cool!
From the myriad of website's, are there any that give you thermal heat maps of heat loss from roofs for free,& you don't have to give-away your details to for privacy, incase of scams/viruses..? 🤔👍
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Would love to know where to get LiDar scans.....is that something you would cover?
Thanks. It's really helpful.
No problem 😌
Thanks for the break downs of each site.
Glad it helps!
Thanks for sharing all these tips 👏 👏
You’re welcome
Great video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!

Thank you for these! i have to point out, though, that nobody had any satellite images in 1945. Not even pictures from above, except perhaps from somebody in a balloon.
One more is Naver which is only for SK. It has some cool features such as a "drone view"
Excellent video. I've used Google Earth for many years but did not know about the others and glad to know they are there and have some very nice features. Thank you
So none of these resources can do street views from the past?
Bing Maps has street view, and street view is pretty expensive and time consuming
Zoom Earth doesn't have any detail on full zoom. I don't even see streets. Why or how does this video show high detail using Zoom Earth?
Which Satelite tool would you say has the highest quality images?
Great presentation... Thanks
You are welcome
They won't talk about this war or try to stop it because Washington hasn't made enough money since they started it.
Can you cover Gaza too, the destruction of it
Well, there isn't much destruction, and every single news station won't shut up about it. I bet you don't know any information about this war, and it is way larger, way more people dying than Israel vs. Hamas terrorists. Bet you don't know about the Tigray War, which is way more horrific than what you are talking about. The most horrific thing that happened in Israel vs. Gaza was actually in Israel's territory, the Hamas soldiers forcing women to put babies into ovens. That is not even half as bad as the things happening multiple times a day every day in Tigray or Sudan.

as of 05-26-2024 the site for Baidu maps is not able to be reached. The site for kartaview indicates that the site is not safe.
The image is too blurry when I use sentinel when I zoom in. And G earth pro refuse giving me 2024 updated photos, only shows till 2021? What should I do?
Google Earth is 1000% NOT open source. Noob
The picture darker clothes (img1) has dark unique rock layout on it's middle left and checking the other pic, w/ lighter clothes (img2) is a large cluster of rocks in the same colour as the other dark unique rocks and in fact that clusters rightmost ~10-20% match to our dark unique rock layout we seen on the far left middle of img1.
can you find my TV remote?
Some viewers might wonder where the imagery comes from before Earth observation satellites were placed in orbit. In many cases high resolution photography was done from aircraft during the earlier days and this has been geo-rectified and then uploaded into the satellite imagery databases.
